IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP THESE FILES INTACT AND LET THE NLE OR VIEWING SOFTWARE OPEN THEM FROM THE FOLDER.  If you try to open individual files, you may not be able to read them and you risk modifying/breaking the directory structure of the card archives.  KEEP THE "BPAV" FOLDER COMPLETE. It is advised that you use Content Browser to create copies/archives with.

PLUG INS AND VIEWERS

Sony Content Browser:  For viewing and managing XDCAM files. Also supports exporting/converting to .mxf for XDCAM EX formats, and converting XDCAM files to .mov for Final Cut Pro. Note that Content Browser is a new application which consolidates many existing ‘legacy’ tools into one cross-platform application.

Notes: XDCAM Transfer was the original conversion/rewrapping/logging plugin for FCP. While officially discontinued, it is qualified through Mac OS Lion and has been confirmed to operate correctly in Mountain Lion. It has since been replaced by/rolled into Content Browser, which is the officially recommended application. CB has additional management, archiving and logging capability that XDCAM Transfer and the Log and Transfer plugin do not have. The Log and Transfer plugin is also a ‘legacy’ application. It is very basic and allows L+T to re-wrap XDCAM EX files to .mov. It does not have any of the advanced logging or management features of the other applications. It also ONLY supports XDCAM EX, while Content Browser supports all XDCAM files.

SAME AS ABOVE - FOR XDCAM EX -  with the following notes:

Re Final Cut 7:

Content Browser and XDCAM Transfer work in much the same way—each adds an ‘import’ option to FCP’s File menu. After installing the applications you will see an option to ‘ImportàSony XDCAM’ or ‘ImportàSony Content Browser’. This opens the applications in plug-in mode, and the imports can be sent to any storage location and mapped to any open FCP Project. Note that for F5/F55 you must manually point XDCAM Transfer to the SUB folder or the CLIP folder when importing XDCAM .mxf files from cards used on the F5/F55.

The Log and Transfer plugin cannot be used for .mxf files
